much of friday afternoon along this rural road in ankeny. at first glance, officials determined that speed was most likely a sgt. brandon bracelin, department: "what we the vehicle was traveling southbound ended up leaving the roadway, entering a ditch and crashing 6900 block." around noon, firefighters and police officers found that car smashed against a tree just off that car smashed against a tree just off of ne 29th street. investigators marked off the path the car traveled, but say they're still trying to figure out where the car first started sliding. sgt. brandon bracelin, department: "we had some witnesses in the area that've seen the vehicle travel down ne 29th street, but collision. they just vehicle in the trees." with temperatures in the 20s, there were patches of ice along the road. most of the road was cleared by plows, but some slick spots remained. sgt. brandon bracelin, polk county sheriff's department: "the roadways are wet in most places. there are some areas of snow cover, but we believe that speed may have been a factor in this accident and our detectives are

jacob peklo, reporting: "at this time, the names of the driver and the passenger are not being released. reporting near ankeny, jacob peklo, local five news. we are iowa." stephanie: the countdown to healthcare is on for hundreds of thousands of iowans. stephanie/1shot: with only a couple of weeks remaining before an important deadline, families on medicaid are wondering about the change over to managed care. local five's chief political correspondent amanda krenz is live tonight with an update for us. two major in the last two days with governor to privatize medicaid. 1. senate democrats voted to stop it. and 2, the iowa democratic party is calling for the republican led house to take it up for debate. let's take a look at the calendar first to see just how close we are to the deadline to do away with the state's medicaid program and put it in the hands of three, private, out of state companies. the new deadline given to iowa by the federal government pushed back the roll-out date to march first. that's 18 days away.

the care providers in iowa, that means hospitals and doctors, have signed contracts with these managed care companies? the latest numbers show that sixty percent of providers have signed up with all three mco's. 70 percent have signed with two mco's. 90 percent have signed with one of the mco's. again, only 18 days left until this is all supposed to rollout. so what's the most important thing that needs to happen for this big change the center for medicaid and services, or cms has to give the okay. organization that has already deadline once. and they have until march first ahead, delay it iowa's just not ready. amanda/3shot: follow this

morning. although winds will be getting lighter, the wind chill values will be in the - 10s for much of the night and saturday morning. clouds will be returning saturday morning with dry and jack: brad thanks. brad thanks. kids and concussions is not only a hot button topic nationally... an iowa senate taking it on. make it mandatory for home teams to provide athletic trainers at every varsity level game for collision sports. those include wrestling, football and both boys and girls soccer. the bill strongly suggests- but is not mandating- that covers "contact sports" as well. if a concussion occurs the trainer has 48 hours to notify schools athletic directors. many of which back the bill strictly out of safety. ambulances or trainers at every event" stephanie: the biggest hurdle? the bill may be an unfunded mandate. which means the schools would have to cover the cost of the trainers. the bill will be debated in sub- committee monday afternoon, but we'll have more details coming up tonight at 6. jack/1 shot: topping national news, a shooting this morning at a high school in glendale, arizona, leaves two 15 year old girls dead. the shooting happened in an isolated area of the campus. both girls were found dead at the scene. the glendale polce say that this was not an active shooter situation. "these two young women were found next to eachother. there was a weapon found beside them. we don't believe that there are any suspects that are out there at this time that we're searching for." jack: police say they have no knowledge of any threats to the school. it's clear they're investigating this case as a murder-suicide,

" (sanders) let's not insult the intelligence of the american people. looking to keep up momentum in the race-- bernie sanders keeps up the charge against big money influence. (sanders) "why in god's name does wall street make huge campaign contributions? i guess just for the fun of it." trying to regain her footing after a double-digit defeat in new hampshire, hillary clinton hammers home details in her responses... and pushes sanders for more on his health care plan.

brad: (adlib) brad: our weekend is going to start off bitterly cold with more snow on the way! arctic air will be settling down into iowa for saturday, then a clipper system will come through saturday night into sunday morning with some snow. tonight is going to be mainly clear with temps going sub-zero by saturday morning. although winds will be getting lighter, the wind chill values will be in the - 10s for much of the night and saturday morning. clouds will be returning saturday morning with dry and quiet conditions during the day. snow will start up after 6 pm saturday night and continue off and on into early sunday morning. right now, it looks like the metro could get about 2-3" while heavier amounts of 3-6" will be possible north and east of us. most of the snow should be done by noon sunday. sunday afternoon is looking dry and mostly cloudy with highs close to average in the low 30s. it should be a nice enough afternoon for the kids to go out and play in the newly fallen snow! warmer

welcome back. we're now just two days away from valentines day. and are you still searching for something to get your sweetheart? how about her own personal choir? jack: the drake choir is offering singing valentines, meaning they will send students to sing a song to your loved one. local 5 photojournalist justin troutner caught up with the choir to show us how that's going over. [singing nats] we were out singing valentine's. it's one of my favorite parts of choir fundraising. i absolutely love to perform for them in a
